Cannabis Takes Center Stage At SXSW 2017
If you aren’t familiar with South By Southwest(SXSW) then you are seriously missing out. This conference brings all of the best things to Austin for about 2 weeks. Downtown Austin, TX becomes a combination of tech conference, education conference, frat party, food festival, and music and film festival for 2 weeks. It is one big party/conference. Every day you bust your ass covering tech and education news and every night you are at any number of house parties with great food and great music. You even may run into some musicians you know. One year Nate Ruess nearly ran us over trying to get to his next show with fun.
This year we get an awesome panel with marijuana industry leaders to bring marijuana into the mainstream! The panel will be help on March 13 from 11-12 PM. And of course we will be covering it for you. But if you are interested in the topics they will be covering here’s a few:
Business, Investing, Medicine, Legalization, Politics, Sex, Sports And Startups.
I don’t know how they are planning to cover all of that in one hour, but I plan to find out. Industry leaders is an understatement. Some of the guests include 420Games, Canna Advisors, Foria, Gateway, Harborside, Headset, HelloMD, Leafly, Marijuana Policy Project, Marley Natural, New Frontier Data, Strainz and VapeXHale. This should be an awesome step forward with making marijuana mainstream. This panel is just one of many though. They are planning to have 13 panels talking about cannabis and it should be informative and fun.
“I am honored to represent Strainz and the burgeoning cannabis industry at SXSW,” said Hugh Hempel, CEO, Strainz. “SXSW was founded with the objective to bring the brightest and most creative minds together to collaborate and network. We hope to open the door to a larger conversation on the countless benefits and attributes of this remarkable plant.”
The panels are scheduled to start March 10th with Rob Kampia of the Marijuana Policy project moderating Political Strategy for Legalizing Marijuana, and the panelists will include TV personality Mantel Williams, marijuana activist Steve DeAngelo, and Zoe Russell from Republicans Against Marijuana Prohibition. Panels will continue through March 18th and cover everything from Medical Marijuana(MMJ) in the NFL to ground-breaking cannabis startups and how they are changing the industry.
Texas hasn’t fully embraced legalization yet, but I’ve always said that Austin feels like it’s own state that just happens to be in Texas. The progressiveness in Austin is something like I’ve never seen. We always find something wonderfully weird in Austin. One year we spent an entire day taking pictures at the Cathedral of Junk which might be one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen and would’ve been so much more amazing if cannabis had been legal. Although my favorite thing about Austin is definitely The Salt Lick. What panels do you want us to live blog and dive in deep with? Anything else in Austin you want us to show you, feel free to let us know!
