Colorado getting it's first Drive-Thru Marijuana Dispensary

Tumbleweed Express Is The Country’s First Drive Thru Dispensary

Tumbleweeds

Parachute, CO, is making history by opening the first ever drive-thru dispensary. Tumbleweed Express is causing a lot of commotion with it’s location coming soon to Parachute. The news became known last week that this Western Colorado town would be allowing the state’s first ever drive-thru pot shop. Opening in a former car wash, Tumbleweed Express is set to open in March.

And the town isn’t fighting this new form of Pot Entrepreneurship, which is something even Denver and Breckenridge struggle with.

“We think the drive-through is a very creative and innovative idea,” Parachute Town Manager Stuart McArthur said.

We’ve all seen the numbers that were put out for last year in Colorado for taxes, but even small communities are seeing huge impacts from the legalization of  recreational marijuana use. Parachute reported that nearly 30 percent of the communities sales tax in 2016 came from cannabis sales providing just over $1 million to the community. Parachute town leaders see this as a way to boost other local economy sales because people visiting to buy marijuana from Parachute will also eat at restaurants and other local businesses, giving the economy a major upswing since the downturn in natural gas production. Parachute Mayor Roy McClung said that the town would have been in serious trouble if marijuana hadn’t been made legal in the state.

Overall any progress in law reform and acceptance is a win for cannabis advocates, but I think it speak volumes for this small community and their progressiveness in accepting any way to save their community and make it a better place to live and work. Congrats to Tumbleweed Express and to Parachute for making Colorado history this year.
